Jordan Matthews' career comeback is officially complete.

The Carolina Panthers are re-signing the veteran wide receiver/tight end to the 53-man roster, Adam Schefter reports on X.

Matthews was initially brought back to the Panthers' practice squad on Wednesday, but will now be on the active roster to begin the 2024-25 NFL season.

Matthews has been 'pushing for a role' in Carolina since the team's first preseason game earlier this month. He made the most of his opportunities through three appearances. The 32-year-old route runner hauled in seven passes for 68 yards and one touchdown, and should provide quality insurance on the team's depth chart ahead of Week 1.

Injuries to Tommy Tremble and Ian Thomas during the preseason catapulted Matthews to this position. He outperformed training camp TE additions Jacob Hollister, Jesper Horsted and Feleipe Franks, who were let go by the team on Tuesday.

Matthews will now join Carolina, forming a quartet that includes Tremble, Thomas and rookie Ja'Tavion Sanders.
