Williams Racing has initiated discussions with Franco Colapinto regarding a potential driver change, indicating that Logan Sargeant's future with the team is uncertain.

These talks began on Friday night, just before Sargeant's crash during the third practice session for the Italian Grand Prix.

This timeline suggests that Williams was already considering a mid-season shift, rather than reacting impulsively to Sargeant's performance.

The team has struggled this season, securing only four points, which may have influenced their decision to explore other options.

One of Colapinto's representatives (Maria Catarineu) confirmed to Fox Sports Argentina that Williams reached out before the crash, highlighting that the team was proactive in its approach. “Well, we knew it could be possible on Friday night,” Catarineu explained.

Following Sargeant's incident, the conversation with Colapinto progressed quickly:

“Williams contacted us on Friday night,” the day before the incident.

Catarineu, who works for Bullet Sports Management, then outlined how things progressed on Saturday:

“On that day, [several hours] after Sargeant’s accident happened in the morning… he [Colapinto] showed us a message [from Williams].

“The message said – ‘Can we talk?’ – and obviously there was a conversation.”

Stepping into Formula 1 mid-season is a significant challenge, especially for a rookie like Colapinto.

With Williams currently at the bottom of the Constructors' Championship, expectations for him may be more manageable.

Fans and analysts will likely focus on how well he adapts to the team and the competitive environment, rather than demanding immediate results.

Colapinto, who is currently sixth in the F2 standings, has shown promise in his career so far. He previously drove for Williams during a practice session at the British Grand Prix and participated in a post-season test last year.

This opportunity could serve as a valuable learning experience for him as he seeks to establish himself in Formula 1.
