The Wisconsin football program has added a former NFL head coach and defensive coodinator to the Badgers staff ahead of the 2024 season.

The Badgers have tapped longtime NFL coach Jack Del Rio to join their staff as a senior advisor to Luke Fickell.

According to a report from Bruce Feldman of The Athletic, Del Rio will be bringing his wealth of professional experience to Madison, where he’ll assist Fickell in guiding the Badgers both offensively and defensively.

Del Rio’s addition is a significant one for Wisconsin. With over two decades of NFL coaching experience, including head coaching stints with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Oakland Raiders, Del Rio is no stranger to high-pressure situations, roster configuration, and game management.

For Fickell, having a seasoned vet like Del Rio on his staff to lean on is a major win for a team looking to bounce back after a disappointing 7-6 season.

The two coaches share a commitment to toughness and disciplined play, and Del Rio’s insights could play a small role in helping Wisconsin football take a step forward as a program in 2024.

This hire underscores Wisconsin’s commitment to compete at the highest level, and with Del Rio on board, the Badgers are positioning themselves to do just that heading into Week 1.
