The Pittsburgh Steelers’ defense has thrived under the leadership of TJ Watt , one of the NFL’s most dominant players since being drafted in the first round in 2017. Watt’s prowess has not only bolstered Pittsburgh’s defensive unit but has also influenced the development of younger teammates, including linebacker Nick Herbig .

Herbig, a fellow Wisconsin alum, benefited from Watt’s mentorship even before joining the NFL. Now, as teammates in Pittsburgh, the connection between the two continues to grow. During a recent appearance on the "Steel Here" podcast, Herbig shared a humorous story about his interactions with Watt regarding his famous sack celebration.

Herbig revealed that teammate Cam Heyward once dared him to imitate Watt’s celebration after making a big play. However, Watt jokingly warned Herbig against it.

"We have joked about it on the sideline. Cam will be like, 'Hey bro, I dare you to do TJ's celly when you make a play.' And TJ will be like, 'Don’t you dare do it." said Herbig

Despite the playful challenge, Herbig admitted that in the heat of the moment, he forgot to mimic the celebration after a significant play.

“I told Cam I was going to do it, but when you get a sack, you blackout. So I didn’t remember to do it, but I definitely wanted to do it, but I didn’t." said Herbig

The anecdote reflects the camaraderie and respect between the two players, who have developed a strong bond through their shared experiences and mutual admiration.

As a rookie, Herbig had limited opportunities but made the most of them, notably delivering a game-changing strip sack against Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith. The critical play helped shift momentum in favor of the Steelers, contributing to a crucial victory. Now entering his second season, Herbig is expected to step up and take on a more prominent role in the Steelers' defense.

With Watt’s guidance and a solid performance trajectory, Herbig has the potential to be a standout in the upcoming season. The Steelers' defense, already a force to be reckoned with, looks even more formidable with emerging talents like Herbig ready to make an impact.

Steelers fans are eager to witness the duo’s dynamic on the field, hoping for plenty of celebrations — signature or otherwise — as they gear up for what promises to be another exciting season.
