Chicago Sky Coach Updates Chennedy Carter's Availability Against Caitlin Clark, Fever

The Chicago Sky are set to host the Indiana Fever on Aug. 30 for a primetime matchup between WNBA rookies Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. Another star in the mix for the Sky is talented guard Chennedy Carter that's led them throughout the year.

While Carter and Reese have had phenomenal seasons for Chicago, the team has been on a rut as of late. They're on a four-game losing streak, and to make matters worse, Carter has been in and out of the lineup due to an ongoing illness.

Carter missed the Sky's last game on Aug. 28 against the Washington Mystics.

The Sky's team practice was shut down on Tuesday, due to suspected illness' within the group. Carter has been the only one ruled out, and the team has since been testing on a regular basis for COVID-19.

It was reported that Carter has been sideline for a non-related COVID-19 illness, but it's unknown whether she'll be ready to suit up against Indiana on Friday.

Chicago coach Teresa Weatherspoon recently gave fans an update on her availability. She believes Carter should be fine and ready to play.

"I'm sure she'll be fine," Weatherspoon said.

Carter's absence from the team leaves a big whole in the Sky. She leads the team in average points with 17.2 on the season. The speedy guard is the most talented scorer on the roster and is able to open up the offense for bigs in the paint like Kamilla Cardoso and Angel Reese.

They missed her skill set in the 74-70 loss to the Washington Mystics on Wednesday, lacking an explosive scorer that can give Chicago an edge.

Unfortunately for Chicago, Indiana has that scorer. Caitlin Clark has been on fire for what looks like a freight train in the Fever. They're on a two-game win streak and they've won four of their last five games.

Clark is currently averaging 18.0 points, 8.1 assists, and 5.7 rebounds per game. She's scored 23 or more points in three of the last five games and has seven or more assists in four of the last five.

The Sky will need Carter's skill set to give them the best chance to knock off the Fever and add a much needed victory to the win column on Friday. While her availability is not finalized, Teresa Weatherspoon seems to think she'll be ready for Indiana.
