New York took a very tough loss yesterday. Games like that can take the energy out of a clubhouse. However, the Mets have shown resilience in the past. They have to find it again. The Mets’ playoff chances look grim. All they can do is take the last month of the season one game at a time and hope for the best.

David Peterson is on the mound for the Mets today. The Mets are on a four game win streak with Peterson on the mound and are 12-3 with him on the mound this year. The lefty is having the best year of his career and is on his best stretch of the year.

Peterson has been excellent this month. He has a 1.71 ERA and 31.2 IP in five August starts. Peterson has yet to give up more than three runs in an August start. He has done a great job of attacking the zone, which has allowed him to pitch much later in games.

Here is how the Diamondbacks lineup against the lefthander:

    1.) SS Geraldo Perdomo

    2.) DH Randal Grichuk

    3.) LF Lourdes Gurriel Jr.

    4.) 1B Josh Bell

    5.) CF Jake McCarthy

    6.) 3B Eugenio Suarez

    7.) RF Corbin Carroll

    8.) 2B Kevin Newman

    9.) C Jose Herrera

    SP Ryne Nelson

Ryne Nelson gets the start for the Diamondbacks. Nelson’s season ERA is 4.29 but he has been much better lately. In his last 15 starts, Nelson has a 3.51 ERA in 89.2 IP. In his last seven starts, he has a 2.91 ERA in 43.1 IP.

Here is how Mets lineup against Nelson:

    1.) SS Francisco Lindor

    2.) RF Starling Marte

    3.) CF Brandon Nimmo

    4.) 1B Pete Alonso

    5.) LF Jesse Winker

    6.) DH J.D. Martinez

    7.) 3B Jose Iglesias

    8.) 2B Jeff McNeil

    9.) C Luis Torrens

    SP David Peterson

The Mets have had success against Nelson in limited at bats. Jesse Winker and Pete Alonso have both hit two home runs in five at bats against the right hander. Nelson faced the Mets twice last year and got lit up in both outings. He has a 15.95 ERA against New York and has given up 13 runs in 7.1 IP.

The Mets will look to hit him hard again.

    How to Watch

The first pitch is scheduled for 3:40 EST. Mets fans can watch the game on SNY. You can listen to the game on WCBS 880 or WINS 92.3 FM HD2
