FRISCO — The Dallas Cowboys are no stranger to the headlines and for some periods will be a staple in those cycles. However, there are other instances when that celebrity it taken and used to communicate ridiculous claims.

The latter category would describe Stephen A. Smith's comments on Thursday regarding Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and Jerry Jones. Smith, a popular critic of "America's Team" brought forth another eye-rolling theory.

Smith conveyed that Dallas' owner should consider moving on from the franchise quarterback, citing his barren postseason record on ESPN's First Take .

"At some point in time, you gotta produce. You gotta show up. And it has to be in the postseason."

Setting that stipulation, of course, is a necessity when arguing against Prescott. The Cowboys' quarterback is coming off a career year where he cemented himself as one of the premier talents under center.

But the 2-5 playoff record remains the biggest stain on his resume which he has yet to separate from.

Smith's comments come as a reaction to the extension talks for Prescott which have stirred to the center of attention as it pertains to the Cowboys. Many including Smith continue to deny his worth as a starting quarterback.

However, whether it happens before the season, midseason, after the season with the Cowboys or elsewhere, Prescott is set for a significant bump. That even promises to send Smith and his fellow  critics into an uproar.

For that to happen, Jones and the Cowboys need to come to terms with their franchise centerpiece. As of now it seems that the sides are not closing in on a new deal.

Until then, the door remains wide open to speculate about Prescott's future and reminisce about his shortcomings.
