It took a while, but the contract extension finally happened for Brandon Aiyuk.

The star wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers has been at a standstill with the front office for weeks, wanting a lucrative contract extension to continue his tenure with the franchise.

Despite getting a strong response from general manager John Lynch after being a no-show in Wednesday's practice, the two sides finally managed to come to an agreement.

On Thursday evening, the terms for the extension came out as a four-year deal of up to $120 million. And of course, as reported by Ian Rapoport, Aiyuk will return to practice with the team.

It's not only a huge sigh of relief for 49ers fans, but for Aiyuk as well.

And from the looks of it, Aiyuk's agent, Ryan Williams, is happy with how things turned out for him and his client.

"We worked hard for that smile," Williams said, posting a screenshot of a Facetime video call with Aiyuk after getting the extension done.

Aiyuk is coming off an excellent 2023 campaign for the 49ers throughout their playoff run to the Super Bowl. In the regular season, he caught 75 passes for 1,342 yards (17.9 yards/catch; career-high) and seven touchdowns throughout 16 games.

He imposed himself as one of Brock Purdy's potent receiving targets, making nine receptions for 149 yards (16.6 yards/catch) and a touchdown in the postseason.

Now that the situation involving Aiyuk can finally be put to rest, the 49ers can resume their aspirations for a Super Bowl title, starting with the season opener against the New York Jets on Sept. 9 at 8:15 p.m. ET.
