College Football Player Ejected Just Two Minutes Into Team's Opening Game

College football can be funny and harsh at times.

That was surely the case for North Carolina State linebacker Caden Fordham, who made a decision he'll want to have back.

Fordham has been with the Wolfpack since his commitment to the program in 2020. Throughout his career, he made 61 tackles (24 solo), four TFLs, and a pass deflection.

Last season was his most significant campaign. Following back-to-back years of being a reserve, he upgraded to being a backup in 2023 as he played significant snaps (410) on defense in 2023. He also saw action in 110 special teams snaps.

In 13 appearances, he made 53 tackles (22 solo), four TFLs, and one pass deflection. They are all career highs across the board. He even started in the Pop-Tarts Bowl against Kansas State, playing a career-high 71 snaps as he made five tackles including one for a loss of yardage.

He hoped to follow upon that strong season entering his redshirt junior year, but a targeting call just over two minutes into the team's season opener put a dent to those plans.

After dropping a potential pick 6 on the first play of the game, getting the first ejection of the college football season is a brutal sequence of events for the up-and-coming defender.

Whether he'll be suspended for the next game remains to be seen. Nonetheless, the Wolfpack will have to carry on without him against Western Carolina.

NC State is tied at 14 apiece against Western Carolina with less than 10 minutes left in the second quarter.
