What Can Lewis Cine Provide for Bills Defense?

It didn't seem like a possibility 24 hours ago.

The Buffalo Bills had seemed to lose out on former first-round safety Lewis Cine to the rival New York Jets after the Minnesota Vikings released the Georgia product on cutdown day.

After original reports called Cine to the Jets, the safety ended up changing his mind Thursday afternoon and reneged on the deal he had with New York.

In response, Cine ended up choosing the Bills and their safety-needy roster.

But what exactly should Buffalo be expecting out of the safety?

It's hard to determine how good Cine will be in 2024. He is two years removed from a broken leg that cost him most of his rookie season and his sophomore season as well. His inability to stay on the field was a key reason for his release in Minnesota.

If there's a defensive staff who deserves the benefit of the doubt when it comes to developing defensive castaways, though, Sean McDermott and the Bills are at the top of the list.

If McDermott can get Cine to play at an effective level, the Bills will have signed a first-round talent who is finally healthy at the perfect time.

It's a low-risk, high-reward move that could help Buffalo in the long run.
