'It's Easy!' Watt Reveals Technique For Recruiting Free Agents

Pittsburgh Steelers All-Pro edge rusher T.J. Watt is well-known around the league. He has been one of the best sack artists in the NFL for an extended period of time, so when he calls, other guys typically pick up the phone.

On a recent episode of teammate Cam Heyward’s “Not Just Football Podcast”, Watt explained his technique for recruiting free agents to Pittsburgh and suit up in the black and gold.

"It's easy," said Watt. "There really isn't much you have to pitch because (coach) Mike T. [Tomlin] is so well-known across the league and respected. And the fans, I mean, when we travel everywhere, the fans come with us, so it's just an incredible place to play.”

Steelers fans do indeed travel very well. Regardless of distance, if Pittsburgh is playing you can bet that fans will show up in droves and wave their Terrible Towels until the final seconds tick off the clock.

Watt also spoke about the team’s playoff drought. The team hasn’t won a playoff game since 2016.

“I tell them it's about tradition and we're so close,” Watt continued. “You know, since I've been here, we haven't won a playoff game. I've talked about that on and on, but I truly feel like we're so close, and I mean, we can't play forever, so the time really is now.

“What's been happening can't continue to happen. I think there's a sense of urgency."

This has been a hot topic in and around the team. Pittsburgh added quarterback Russell Wilson and linebacker Patrick Queen in free agency, both of whom reached out to current players to ask about the team.

Can they make the difference in winning and losing in the playoffs? That remains to be seen, but if these guys can stay healthy, they have a shot to help Watt's Steelers succeed in the postseason.
