San Francisco 49ers' star tackle Trent Williams' contract status was revealed on Friday morning, just hours after his teammate Brandon Aiyuk signed a four-year, $120 million deal.

Like Aiyuk, Williams is seeking a new contract and knows his worth. However, the key difference between the two is their approach.

While Aiyuk has been holding "in," attending team practices and training camp without participating, Williams is holding "out," meaning he isn’t at the facility at all and is getting fined as a result.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport provided the latest update on Williams’ contract situation.

It doesn't bode well for the Niners.

"As of right now, I do not believe they are close," Rapoport said on Friday morning's "Good Morning Football."

Rapoport added that Williams is staying patient, confident in his value to the team.

"Trent Williams is holding out, out of sight and out of mind," Rapoport noted. "He knows what he is worth. He's racking up fines, but he knows his value."

Williams, an All-Pro tackle, signed a six-year, $138.06 million contract in March 2021. Despite being under contract and set to earn $20.05 million in base salary this year, Williams believes his current deal doesn’t fully reflect his status as one of the league's elite offensive linemen.

His contract, which still has three years remaining, averages $23.01 million annually, making him only the sixth-highest-paid offensive lineman in the NFL.

At 36 years old, Williams sees this as potentially his last opportunity to secure a substantial financial commitment.

His holdout has persisted throughout training camp, and there’s growing concern that it might extend into the regular season if an agreement isn’t reached.

Williams’ role is crucial to the 49ers' offensive success, directly impacting key players like Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, and Brandon Aiyuk. His presence on the field is essential, making this contract standoff one of the most significant issues facing the team as the season approaches.
