The sports world was buzzing Thursday night as everybody tuned in for opening night of the college football season, and Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant was right in the mix.

Watching Colorado football's season opener against North Dakota State, Morant was - as he always is - a passionate sports fan.

The game delivered plenty of highlights, with standout performances from quarterback Shedeur Sanders and the versatile Travis Hunter. However, one play had Morant and many others doing a double-take.

The moment that grabbed Morant's attention came when Sanders connected with Hunter for a 3-yard touchdown pass. In tight coverage, Hunter twisted his body mid-air, battling off a defender as he secured the ball while falling to the ground.

It was the kind of athletic feat that left everyone watching in awe, including Morant.

A Ja meme for the moment

A Memphis-based X user, @jaycboog, captured the sentiment perfectly, posting a short clip from last season showing Morant taking his hat off, clearly impressed by what he was watching on the arena scoreboard.

"Me watching that Travis Hunter catch on replay," the post read.

Morant responded quickly. Two minutes later, he quoted the post with a simple but emphatic response. Ja tweeted "nah fr" (fr means 'for real') and added two laughing emojis.

Hunter finished the game with three touchdowns, while Sanders threw for a staggering 445 yards in the Buffaloes' 31-26 victory. Their performances didn't just catch Morant's eye. Lebron James also shared his appreciation for what he saw, as did NFL stars like Tyreek Hill and Patrick Mahomes.

NFL analyst Ryan Clark wasn't far behind with his enthusiastic take, suggesting big things for Hunter's future in football: "Draft Travis Hunter Top 5, & let him play whatever position he wants!!" Clark posted. "If there's a better player in college ball he's gonna have to show me!"

Morant, clearly impressed, shared Clark's post on his page, further amplifying the conversation around Hunter's incredible performance.

    From cheerleader to highlight maker

While Morant is currently enjoying the show as a fan, it won't be long before he's back in the spotlight, creating highlight-reel moments of his own.

The Grizzlies are set to begin training camp on October 1 in Nashville, with their preseason opener against the Dallas Mavericks scheduled for October 7.

As Morant gears up for what promises to be an exciting season, his reaction to Hunter's catch is a reminder that even the best athletes in the world can still be fans at heart, marveling at the greatness of others.
