Hurt Feelings? Dak Reveals Coy & Cryptic Response to Jerry

FRISCO - It's been a couple of weeks since Jerry Jones and Dak Prescott used the media to joust back and forth about a contract extension agreement that would end his lame-duck status, keep him from becoming a free agent next spring and make the QB a "Cowboy for Life.''

    Silence was golden. Until Thursday.

That's when Prescott - who if he waits patiently and turns down any Cowboys offer can make even more ($60 million APY? Maybe $70 million?) - opted to take a poke at Jones.

Reflecting on Jerry's Wednesday word salad about Dak's "merit'' and the supposed shifting focus away from the negotiating table and to the Week 1 opener at Cleveland on Sept. 8, Prescott chose to fire back ... cryptically. And coyly.

"I don't need it," he said of a deal done immediately. "I think it says a lot if it is or it isn't. However doesn't really matter to me, to be honest with you."

Wait a sec, Dak. If "it doesn't matter'' either way, why are you saying "it says a lot'' if it's not done? What is being insinuated here? If it isn't done, what does that tell Prescott?

It tells him, Dak added, "Just how people feel.''

For somebody who claims to "not care'' ... that's a pretty sensitive sentiment. If Jerry doesn't pay Dak what he's asking for, and if he doesn't do it soon, it'll "say a lot'' about ... what? Disrespect for Prescott?

The truth is, this is a two-way street. Dallas' offer needs to be "respectful'' to Dak, and it needs to be reflective of what he's done for the Cowboys, what he's tried to do, and what he'll hopefully do in the future.

But at the same time, Prescott needs to recognize what Jerry's Cowboys have done for him. And when he indicates that he's not feeling the love - "It says a lot'' about "how people (the Joneses) feel'' about him? - he's failing to do so.

"I'm blessed to play this game,'' Prescott said. "I get paid a lot of money to do it. I've already gotten paid; to get paid again is just part of it. I'm due up for it, whether that's signing here or somewhere else that I don't care to think about at this moment. It's all part of it."

"It's about now, period,'' said Dak. But it's about more than that. It's also about the future. And it's about something else, too, as revealed in Dak's "it'll say a lot'' viewpoint.

    It's also about ... feelings.
