Shedeur Sanders Offers Interesting Admission About Colorado's Questionable Final Drive

In front of a near-sold-out crowd at Folsom Field, the Colorado Buffaloes escaped a valiant upset attempt by FCS powerhouse North Dakota State on Thursday, August 29.

The Buffs went on to win the game 31-26, but not without some late-game drama that had fans on the edge of their seats. The Bison were down, 31-20, and ended up scoring with 2:19 remaining thanks to a great scramble by Cam Miller.

While there was still time left in the game, Colorado had a chance to put it away and get out of there with the win, but they didn't make it look easy.

After getting bailed out on third down thanks to a pass interference call, Colorado decided to air it out on first down. A moment that led to many fans and analysts alike questioning why they didn't run the ball to take time off the clock.

Well, following the game, we learned that star quarterback Shedeur Sanders called for the run. He explained this decision when speaking to the media, citing the fact that he saw one-on-one coverage.

"Cover 0 and we have like the best receiver room in the nation so it's kind of like disrespectful," Sanders replied when asked about the decision to throw. "It was something I definitely would learn from so that's why I'm happy everything in my life...I always was able to learn from it.

"It's not too many mistakes you gonna see I make twice," Sanders said. "That's just something Imma learn. Understand that, and even if it looks super tempting, then it's just like still you gotta you know just go with it."

This isn't the first time Sanders has taken the blame for changing the play at the line during his time in Boulder, as he also did so against USC last season when he opted to check to a run when down by 14 despite having no timeouts and it being later in the fourth quarter.

Luckily for Sanders and Colorado, they have one of the best punters in the nation in Mark Vassett, as he was able to pin the Bison deep in their own territory. The Bison had about 30 seconds to drive 92 yards, and came up short on their final-second heave.

As for Sanders, he gets a pass for the blunder, considering he, along with Travis Hunter and Jimmy Horn Jr., willed the team to victory. He finished having completed 26-of-34 (76%) passes for 445 yards and four touchdowns.

Sanders and the Buffs will hit the road next week, as they are set to take on rival, Nebraska. The game is set to take place on Saturday, September 7, at 7:30 ET and will air on NBC.
