Board Authorizes Use Of Eminent Domain For Albertson’s Fort Collins Property
Late last week, the Fort Collins Urban Renewal Authority board of commissioners authorized the use of eminent domain to acquire the Albertson’s grocery store property on North College Avenue in Fort Collins. The Coloradoan reports the property was deemed blighted and a detriment to the community without redevelopment and the property’s owner has not cooperated. Eminent domain allows a government to take control of private property in order to provide a public benefit, without the owner’s consent but after paying just compensation for it.
