Chiefs' Over/Under Win Projection - Crazy To 'Bet Against Patrick Mahomes'?

    By Adam Schultz,

Since Patrick Mahomes became the starter, the Kansas City Chiefs have been a juggernaut that has blown through the NFL. In six seasons, Mahomes has led his team to at least the AFC Championship game while winning three Super Bowls.

It is also worth noting that in each season, Mahomes has won at least 11 games (won 10 last year, Mahomes rested for the final regular season game). With the Chiefs' over/under win total for 2024 set at 11.5, is it realistic to think that Kansas City won't hit the overs?

CBS Sports' Joel Magaraci has a rather big statement about it - the Chiefs are going under 11.5 wins.

"Hear me out on this one," Magaraci writes . "I know it's crazy to EVER bet against Patrick Mahomes, but I don't think the Chiefs can avoid a Super Bowl hangover for two straight seasons. And I'm feeling a little crazy."

Now, is an 11-win season a "bad" year for the Chiefs? No, and it would mark the first time Mahomes hasn't had 11+ wins since 2019 (last year aside).

With the Chiefs improving their offensive weaponry and adding Xavier Brown, Marquise Brown, and Juju Smith-Schuster , Mahomes can now dial up the launch codes as he did when Tyreek Hill was a Chief.

Kansas City does have a tough opening to its Super Bowl defense, facing the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals in the first two weeks. But both are at home, so there's a real chance for the Chiefs to lay down a marker in the AFC early in the season.

But betting against Mahomes isn't the smartest thing to do. After an offseason that has seen the defending champs get stronger (on paper, at least), you would be a fool to think the Chiefs won't win 12+ games.

However, the NFL is a funny thing. Just when you think you have things figured out, a curveball comes right at you.

Will we get one in 2024?
