The hockey community and the world alike are still mourning the passing of NHL superstar Johnny Gaudreau, 31, and his brother Matthew Gaudreau, 29.

The passing of the young Gaudreaus has sparked an outpouring of generosity across the globe, with the GoFundMe campaign launched by Holland Korbitz, sister of Matthew's wife Madeline. In just two days since the campaign was launched, it has raised a historic $425,000 thanks to over 6.2K donations as of September 1.

The fundraiser was launched to support Matthew's widow and their unborn child, who is expected to arrive in December.

The description of the GoFundMe campaign highlights the purpose of the funds.

"In this unimaginably difficult time, we are coming together to support Matthew's wife, Madeline, and their growing baby Tripp, and help alleviate some of the financial burdens they now face," Korbitz wrote.

As Korbitz stated, no amount of money will ever clear the pain from those directly affected by the passing of the Gaudreau brothers, but "your support on any level will help take some of the financial weight off the Gaudreau family as they navigate this journey."

"All donations raised will be transferred directly to Madeline to help pay for funeral expenses and baby Tripp," Korbitz wrote.

Matthew and Johnny were cycling on a New Jersey road when they were struck by a car driven by Sean Higgins, who admitted to drinking "five or six beers" before the accident. Higgins is now facing two charges of death by auto and appeared in court for the first time on Friday, August 30.

"Your support will allow them the time to take off work to grieve and heal as a family," Korbitz added.
