Jets Predicted to Trade Star Pass Rusher Haason Reddick to AFC Rival

The marriage between the New York Jets and Haason Reddick started off poorly and has only gotten worse, lending credence to the notion that an annulment may be in the mix.

New York appears clearly to have committed the cardinal sin when trading for a star edge rusher in Reddick who wants a new contract now -- they didn't get the deal done before acquiring the player.

The Jets' unwillingness to budge on an extension after flipping a conditional third-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for Reddick's services has led to the outside linebacker requesting a trade out of the Big Apple before ever playing a single snap for the organization.

Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report predicted that Reddick will ultimately get his wish via a trade between the Jets and the Baltimore Ravens .

"It's a [standoff] that still that doesn't seem to have a positive end in sight. Trading [Reddick] to a team that is willing to give him an extension might be the best way forward," Ballentine wrote on Saturday, August 31. "The Ravens should be on the short list of teams who would be willing to do that. They are coming off of a great season in 2023, but they have a clear need for an edge rusher. Perhaps exchanging an unproven young player like David Ojabo for someone who can help right away would be appealing."

The Jets clearly believed they needed pass rushing help before acquiring Reddick, so it tracks that they might be interested in bringing back a player like Ojabo in any potential trade.

However, New York will also be looking for at least a third-round pick as the center of any Reddick deal in order to match what it gave up to Philly. In the end, a second-rounder might be what is necessary for an agreement to be reached.

Baltimore owns both its second- and third-round selections in 2025 and could meet the Jets' likely requirements if motivated.

Reddick's recent success is fairly good motivation, as he has produced at least 11 sacks in each of the past four seasons, including a career high of 16 sacks in 2022. Entering his age-30 campaign, Reddick has also earned Pro Bowl honors in each of the past two seasons.
