    Could Steelers Sign Cowboys' Prescott?

    By Anthony Licciardi,

While the Pittsburgh Steelers have taken an acceptable approach to the quarterback position, acquiring Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, no one is ready to claim either of them as the long-term answer.

In a median outcome, Pittsburgh’s quarterbacks fail to separate themselves, teetering somewhere between average and bad , and posing the quarterback question for yet another offseason.

Could the Steelers go big-game fishing in 2025?

Assuming Pittsburgh doesn’t have a high enough pick to take its franchise quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft, free agency could be the answer to their problems.

As things stand, the Steelers have over $80 million in cap space for next season (per Over the Cap ). But according to Mike Florio , they could try and go under the reported asking prices for Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.

“Would they pay Dak market value? Here’s the thing about free agency. Dak could choose to go to a team and a coach for less than market value,” Florio suggested. “After having Jerry Jones try to persuade him for years to take less than he could get elsewhere, Dak could stick it to the Cowboys by choosing to take less from one of their biggest AFC rivals.”

    Don’t get too excited .

For one, Dallas has to let Prescott leave the building for him to be a free agent. As slow as negotiations have seemed, it’s still hard to believe any team would let its star quarterback walk for fun and games.

If he does hit the market, though, pettiness is unlikely to be on the top of Prescott’s mind. It would be a pivot from the near-immaculate record he’s posted off the field as a Cowboy. He’s said the right things, posted the right posts, and represented America’s Team well.

We doubt he’s going to let spite get in the way of maximizing the earnings he’s earned with star-level play.

Prescott is in line for a contract with an average annual value between $55-60 million. There’s a world in which Pittsburgh can offer that. But if they aren’t willing to put up market-setting numbers (or perhaps more in a free agency frenzy), they can kiss hopes of a franchise quarterback goodbye.

Don’t count on Prescott making his way to Western Pennsylvania.
