Ricky Pearsall's Mother Shares Important Announcement After His Shooting

Ricky Pearsall was "extremely lucky" with the outcome of his shooting on Saturday, the mother of the San Francisco 49ers rookie said.

Erin Pearsall provided an important update on the status of her son, who was shot in San Francisco on August 31 in what police said was a robbery attempt gone wrong. The 49ers released a statement saying that Pearsall was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition after being shot in the chest.

The rookie wide receiver's mother is now providing more details on the shooting, including just how close he may have come to a more catastrophic injury. In a Facebook post shared by reporter Kevin Brockway , Erin Pearsall revealed that the bullet went through her son's shoulder.

"Update on my baby boy," Erin Pearsall wrote. "First and far most I want to thank GOD for protecting my baby boy. He is extremely lucky, GOD shielded him. He was shot in the chest and it exited out his back. Thanks be to GOD it missed his vital organs. He is in good spirits right now. Life is so precious my friends. Please love eachother. My son was spared today by the grace of GOD. Please pray for my baby."

Police said Ricky Pearsall was able to fight back against the assailant, who was identified as a 17-year-old. The attacker was also shot with his own gun in the exchange, though police did not say whether it was Pearsall who pulled the trigger.
