Matthew Stafford's contributions to the Los Angeles Rams are often overlooked, despite his pivotal role in their Super Bowl victory. As the Rams gear up for the 2024 season, many recognize their offensive strength, thanks to key players like Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua. However, Stafford's impact on the team is frequently sidelined in discussions about elite NFL quarterbacks.

Former Rams players Aaron Donald and DeSean Jackson recently defended Stafford, emphasizing his importance to the team's success. They highlighted how Stafford's experience and leadership were crucial in bringing the Rams back to the playoffs after their championship run.

"Not saying that Jared Goff isn't that guy," Donald said. "I think he was just younger, and I think they just wasn't willing to wait for the development process with him. They were more trying to win now."

"But I think adding a piece, a veteran guy that had been around a long time, that played some great football for a long time, to bring him to a team with the pieces to get it done, I think that was a big help for us."

Stafford, who has been in the league for nearly 15 years, was drafted first overall by the Detroit Lions in 2009. He spent 12 seasons in Detroit, leading the team to its first playoff appearance in over a decade before joining the Rams in a trade that sent Jared Goff to the Lions.

Throughout his career, Stafford has earned two Pro Bowl selections and was named the Comeback Player of the Year in 2011. He also secured a spot on the Detroit Lions All-Time Team, joining the ranks of legendary quarterbacks.
