On Saturday, news broke that San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was seriously injured in an attempted robbery that led to him being shot in the chest. Following the incident, he was immediately transported to San Francisco General Hospital where he is currently listed in stable condition.

The 49ers organization reported that Pearsall's injury occurred during an incident in Union Square, a commercial area in San Francisco, which allegedly involved an attempted robbery. In a statement, the team noted, "San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was the victim of an attempted robbery and shooting this afternoon. He sustained a bullet wound to his chest and is in serious but stable condition. We ask that you please respect his privacy at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ricky and the entire Pearsall family."

Eyewitness accounts revealed that Pearsall was seen walking unassisted before entering the ambulance, which offered some reassurance regarding his condition.

General Manager John Lynch made a point to be at the hospital to support Pearsall during this difficult time, demonstrating the team's solidarity and concern for their player.

Reports state that the suspect involved, a 17-year-old male from Tracy, California, was apprehended shortly after the shooting, having also been shot during the confrontation. While initial investigations suggested that the suspect may have been attempting to steal Pearsall’s watch, Police Chief Bill Scott commented, "We have a good idea [of what he was after, but] we're not ready to release that [information] at this time."

Earlier on the day of the incident, Pearsall participated in a public event at the Cow Palace in Daly City, where he engaged with fans by signing autographs. Following the shooting, fellow 49ers players expressed relief on social media, with wide receiver Deebo Samuel posting, "He's good ... Thank god!!!!".
