Why Did Josh Jacobs Spurn Giants?

Early in the offseason, the New York Giants lost running back Saquon Barkley when he signed with the rival Philadelphia Eagles. Giants general manager Joe Schoen was immediately in damage control mode trying to find a running back to fill his shoes.

The Giants eventually signed Devin Singletary as their feature back, but he wasn’t their first choice.

In a recent article by Dan Pompei of The Athletic , Packers running back Josh Jacobs had revealed that the Giants came in strong before he chose Green Bay.

“The Giants came on strong with an offer between $3 million and $4 million more than he eventually accepted,” Pompei writes. “But Jacobs was turned off by the New York taxes, lifestyle, media and the artificial turf at MetLife Stadium.”

Jacobs ultimately signed with the Packers on a four-year, $48 million deal and the Giants signed Singletary.

Jacobs, 26, is looking to return to the workhorse back he was with the Raiders and Singletary is looking to extend his streak of being the leading rusher for every team he plays for.

The Giants are preparing to take on the Minnesota Vikings in Week 1 at home. The game at MetLife stadium kicks off at 1 p.m. ET on Sept. 8. Expect Singletary to be a big part of New York's plans as it looks to protect quarterback Daniel Jones.
