The Phoenix Mercury versus Las Vegas Aces matchup took a heated turn on Sunday. Phoenix received three technical fouls in the second half, two of which occurred within two minutes of each other.

To get things going, Natasha Cloud picked up a technical foul in the second quarter. That marked her seventh of the season, meaning if the WNBA upholds the referee's decision, Cloud would be hit with a one-game suspension.

Cloud earned the penalty in the second quarter with 4:24 remaining in the half.

Cloud was defending Kelsey Plum when the Aces guard was using her off-hand to distance herself from Plum. Cloud then looked straight at the referee, complaining about Plum's actions and was immediately assessed a technical foul.

With 7:39 to go in the third quarter, Diana Taurasi became the second Mercury player to be handed a technical foul.

The WNBA veteran was far from the referee when the foul was called, and the officiating crew paused the game. At that point in the match, Natasha Cloud was taking the ball up the floor, and Taurasi expressed her frustration.

Taurasi will be facing a suspension since she picked up her seventh technical foul of the season unless it's rescinded upon review from the WNBA.

After Taurasi and Cloud started the technical foul party, Kahleah Copper finished it. She picked up the third and final technical foul of the night for Phoenix.

Copper was assessed the penalty with 5:40 remaining in the third quarter.

The Phoenix Mercury have a tall task ahead of them, attempting to move on with a potential suspension for Taurasi and Cloud in their next matchup.

Phoenix will play the Atlanta Dream on Sept. 3 at home. Cloud and Taurasi will await a decision from the league office. If their fouls are not rescinded, both will be facing a suspension.
