Cowboys Advised to Sign Former Pro Bowl Pass Rusher Alongside Micah Parsons

The Dallas Cowboys have a one of the best sack artists in the league in All-Pro Micah Parson s, but the unit as a whole could still use some depth.

Enter Yannick Ngakoue , a 29-year-old defensive end with 69 career sacks and a Pro Bowl selection in 2017 to his credit.

Ngakoue remains a free agent one week shy of the Cowboys' preseason opener on the road against the Cleveland Browns on September 8. SB Nation's Blogging The Boys suggested on Sunday that Dallas take a hard look at a flier on Ngakoue considering its situation on the edge.

"Although he's not a great run defender, Ngakoue can still get after the quarterback," SB Nation wrote . "No team can have enough pass rushers in today's NFL . Ngakoue is just the type of player that organizations would like to be available with the season approaching, and it would behoove the Cowboys to at least pick up the phone."

Ngakoue played for the Chicago Bears last season on a one-year deal worth $10.5 million . He suffered an ankle injury that cost him the last four contests of the year and finished the campaign with a career-low 4 sacks.

However, prior to last season, Ngakoue went seven consecutive years with at least 8 sacks in each campaign. He remains on the right side of 30, and the Cowboys can probably land him on a one-year contract for considerably less than what he made in Chicago last season given his production and injury there.

Dallas selected linebacker Marshawn Kneeland in the second round of this year's draft, and Ngakoue would likely compete with him for work as pass-rush specialists behind the Pro Bowl tandem of Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence .

The Cowboys also added veteran edge rusher Carl Lawson over the summer, though he currently resides on the practice squad.
