Reid Details 2 Keys to Rashee Move Up

Last season for the Kansas City Chiefs offense, Patrick Mahomes had two go-to weapons - Travis Kelce and Rashee Rice.

While Kelce having a huge say in the offense wasn't surprising, second-round pick Rice was. He would total 938 yards and seven touchdowns (led the team) from 79 receptions (26 rec, 262 yards, 1 TD in playoffs) as he developed good chemistry with Mahomes.

Now, as he begins his second season, head coach Andy Reid detailed where Rice has improved his game.

“I think there was a couple things,” Reid said of Rice . “I think the conditioning part of it, how much you gotta play and how fast you have to play every play, that was one. I thought his feel for space was another and then just the experience part of playing. By the end of the season, he could roll now, and he had a great feel for what Patrick [Mahomes] was looking for, what the coaches were looking for, and was able to execute that and play fast with the skillset he’s been blessed with.”

With the Chiefs' offense only having two genuine weapons in Rice and Kelce last season, the front office got on the front foot and added more firepower for Mahomes this offseason.

In came Marquise Brown in free agency, Xavier Worthy was drafted in the first round, and Juju Smith-Schuster was brought in last week. So now Mahomes has plenty of options as he looks to take the offense to a new level in 2024.

Rice was a big part of the Chiefs' offense last season, and he looks to become an even better player in year two. With new weapons on offense, defenses won't be able to zero in on the former second-round pick, which could lead to favorable matchups.

And that spells trouble for teams hoping to curtail the Chiefs offense.
