Brian Kelly is Going Viral for the Wrong Reasons as LSU Curse Continues

The LSU Tigers officially began the third year with Brian Kelly as the head coach. Kelly came over from Notre Dame and was met with lofty expectations, especially with the Tigers' championship pedigree.

However, for the third year in a row, Kelly has lost the first game of the season. On Sunday, the Tigers faced Lincoln Riley and the USC Trojans in Las Vegas, and Woody Marks scored the game-winning touchdown to give USC the 27-20 victory.

In the 2022 season, LSU lost the opener to Florida State, 24-23. Last season, LSU lost Week 1 to Florida State again, 45-24. This time, USC gets the best of them.

Moreover, LSU has now lost five straight season openers, as Aaron Torres points out. As of publishing, that tweet by Torres already has nearly 11,000 views, and other fans mentioned the same statistic .

LSu went into the half tied at 10 and then took a 17-13 lead late in the third quarter. The Tigers then tied things up at 20 with less than two minutes remaining.

However, a targeting call and a magnificent drive by Trojans QB Miller Moss was too much for LSU to handle in the final minutes.

This is also the third consecutive neutral field loss for LSU, and Brian Kelly has yet to win an opener week game since he came to Baton Rouge.

In 2023, the Tigers wound up going 10-3 with a win in the ReliaQuest Bowl over Wisconsin, but Kelly's team can't seem to get on the right foot to begin the season.

LSU has an easier road the next four weeks, with games against Nicholls, South Carolina, UCLA and South Alabama before a Week 6 bye.

Unfortunately, the LSU opening week curse will live on for another year.
