Steelers' Wilson 'Delusional' Per Ex Super Bowl Champ

The Pittsburgh Steelers attempted to cure their anemic offense from last season by completely turning over their quarterback room this offseason.

Gone are Mitch Trubisky, Mason Rudolph and former local fan-favorite Kenny Pickett. General manager Omar Khan got aggressive in bringing in Russell Wilson and Justin Fields to compete for the starting role, which Wilson eventually won.

However, not everyone thinks Wilson will succeed as the No. 1 guy, and that Fields will take over under center at some point this season. One of those critical of Wilson is former Super Bowl champion Mark Schlereth.

Recently on his Stinkin Truth podcast, Schlereth said Wilson is "delusional" in thinking he's still a top-tier quarterback.

“I'm gonna say five (games),” Schlereth said. “I just think that the way the Pittsburgh Steelers are gonna have to be built, what they’re gonna have to build themselves on is the running game and using the quarterback element in the run game.

“Do I think they may be able to compete for a playoff spot? Yeah, but the issue is, and this is what got Russ out of Seattle and Denver, Russ isn’t willing to admit he’s not good at stuff,” Schlereth said. “He’s delusional. If you’re not willing to admit it, then you can’t fix it.”

Wilson arrived on a one-year deal, while Fields' rookie contract expires at the end of the season. The Steelers will need to figure out which on - if either - is their new franchise quarterback.
