Utah's defensive back room was thin going into the season.

They were already down star transfer Cam Calhoun for the first game, and having little proven depth behind the starters, the group could ill afford to take a hit.

Sadly, in the first game of the year against Southern Utah University, Georgia Tech transfer Kenan Johnson went down and immediately found himself roaming the sidelines in crutches, spelling a grim yet unconfirmed outcome for the player and the defense as a whole.

As a replacement, Elijah "Snoopy" Davis impressed in the game, snagging himself an interception and proving to be a viable option in coverage, but Johnson's presence on the field was still near impossible to replace.

In the first press conference in the leadup to the Baylor bout, Utah HC Kyle Whittingham gave the media an update on the veteran corner.

"Yeah, it's season-ending," the long-tenured coach said in a somber tone but pointed out that if Johnson wants to, he could come back and play for the Utes in 2025 as a result of missing this campaign.

A massive blow to the team as a whole, but especially the cornerback room, Johnson's absence will be felt on the field. However, with Cam Calhoun returning this week and "Snoopy" Davis coming off an impressive performance, the room, while still thin, still has the ability to lock down opposing wide receivers and cause turnovers at a steady rate.
