Robert Saleh, Jets 'Reconnecting' To Roots in 2024

Few coaches in NFL history have failed to reach the playoffs in their first three seasons and kept their job for a fourth.

Robert Saleh of the New York Jets is one of those coaches.

As the Jets prepare for a fourth year under Saleh's tutelage, everyone in the organization knows the pressure is on to not only end their 13-year playoff drought but also be a championship contender as well.

Saleh may be seen as a question mark standing in the team's way of securing that goal, but there's a reason why New York remains optimistic with this coaching staff.

For starters, few coaches in history have dealt with the kind of injury luck and quarterback concern the Jets have over the last few seasons. New York has gone through four quarterbacks in each of the last two seasons alone - with their 7-10 finishes seen as miracles because of that.

Still, being 15 games under .500 as a head coach has left the head coach searching for answers in his own work - and that's pushed Saleh to get back to finding ways to "reconnect" to his roots as a coach.

"To grow in the world, to grow as an individual, you have to live in uncomfortable environments, and I would say last year was one of the more uncomfortable environments that you could create for an organization," Saleh said via Rich Cimini of ESPN. "Because of it, I think our players, coaches, everybody in this building are better for it."

Few Jets teams have had more pressure on them than the current group under Saleh. They all know if they can't play at a high level this year, the growth pushed by Saleh will mean very little.

    At least going forward.
