Should Bills Promote Frank Gore Jr. to Active Roster?

The Buffalo Bills are under a week away from facing the Arizona Cardinals in their season opener. While, barring any injuries, the Bills' starting offense is likely set in stone for their first game, there will certainly be plenty of opportunities throughout the season for players, both on the active roster and the practice squad, to prove themselves and gain touches with the team.

One of the players that may end up working themselves into important touches is undrafted rookie running back Frank Gore Jr. While he is undrafted out of college, Gore Jr. had an extremely strong preseason with Buffalo, finishing with 163 rushing yards, second among all players, on just 33 carries.

While the Bills do have James Cook and rookie Ray Davis ahead of Gore Jr. on the depth chart, burnout or injuries are always possible, and there have been some concerns about both players' ball security throughout training camp. After his preseason, Gore Jr. would likely be one of the first players that the team looks to as a replacement.

Son of former Bills running back Frank Gore, who holds the NFL record for most games played by a running back, Gore Jr. played for Southern Miss football in college, where he earned first-team All-Sun Belt honors in 2022.

While he didn't make the team's initial 53-man roster, the team brought Gore Jr. back to their practice squad shortly after his release, showing that they do still have long-term interest in him.

With or without Gore Jr., the Bills will begin their 2024 regular-season against the Cardinals in Buffalo on Sunday.
