Caleb Williams is a rookie quarterback who has yet to take a single regular-season snap in the NFL , but he's already a captain of the Chicago Bears .

Williams joins wide receiver DJ Moore in the honor this season, who had a strong opinion to share on the young signal-caller after the announcement.

"When you come to work every day like he did, and go through the things that he had to grow through, especially against the defense, and you see the work that he was putting in day in and day out, I mean you can't do anything but respect that and want him to be a captain for you," Moore said on Monday, September 2, per Courtney Cronin of ESPN .

Moore's feelings toward Williams aren't unique, as Cronin noted that the rookie has won over the entire locker room -- no mean feat considering how many players felt that Justin Fields , Williams' predecessor in Chicago, caught a raw deal from the franchise when it replaced him.

General manager Ryan Poles recently described Williams' leadership as "natural," which might explain why his transition from No. 1 overall pick to the leader of an NFL team in just four months has gone so smoothly.

"It's not forced," Poles said of Williams' personality. "We've all been [on] teams before, but there's people that come into those situations and they try too hard. It's like, man, it's awkward. It's hard to buy into that. Then there's guys that they can navigate that so naturally because they're authentic, and it's real. And that's what he's done."

Also captains alongside Williams and Moore are tight ends Cole Kmet and Marcedes Lewis , defensive backs Jaylon Johnson and Kevin Byard III , and linebackers Tremaine Edmunds and T.J. Edwards .
