Daniels had a stellar season last year for the LSU Tigers where he won the Heisman Trophy behind 40 passing touchdowns and another 10 on the ground. Daniels is a true dual-threat quarterback that the Bucs need to contain. The Commanders had just four wins in 2023 earning them the No.2 overall pick in the NFL Draft.

Head coach Todd Bowles understands that 1. they aren't just playing Daniels and 2. you can never overlook an opponent in the NFL:

“I think if you find yourself just facing a rookie quarterback, the other 10 guys are going to kill you. We’re facing the [Commanders], we’re not facing Jayden Daniels," Bowles said. "They’ve got 10 other guys that we’ve got to worry about, as well. We don’t look at it as facing a rookie quarterback, we’re trying to beat the Commanders.”

Bowles carries an impressive 10-5 record against rookie quarterbacks in his career as a coach, but there's another aspect of this game Bowles has his eye on.

Here is what the Bucs head coach had to say about winning the game up front:

“It’s going to be huge,” Bowles said. “They’ve got some talented players up there. We don’t play any scrubs anymore. Nobody is playing their three’s and four’s [like] in preseason, so it’s going to be a tough challenge. We know they’re a tough bunch. They get off the ball very well. Dan [Quinn] is a great defensive coach. It’s going to be a challenge for them.”

Both teams will be trying to start the season off the right way, and the game plan for the Bucs seems to be simple, contain Daniels and win the game up front.
