'Blindsided!' Eagles Newcomer On Being Cut

Last season the Las Vegas Raiders selected defensive tackle Byron Young out of the University of Alabama with the No. 70 overall pick in the third round of the NFL Draft.

Last week, after just one season with the team, the Raiders cut Young. On Thursday, Aug. 29, the Philadelphia Eagles signed the second-year player and brought him into their defensive fold.

When talking to the media upon his arrival, Young admitted he was shocked about his release from the Raiders after just one year.

"I was completely blindsided,” Young said. “It seemed like everyone else was, too. Sometimes things just happen. It's part of the business.”

We suppose he is correct, but after just one year in the league? The Raiders have been in complete disarray for a few years, but even this seems off for a rebuilding team. If they cut a true veteran, that would make much more sense that cutting a player they drafted just a year later.

"It's a lot of motivation,” Young continued. “It's a lot. I wanna come here and I wanna make an impact. There's a chip on my shoulder because the Raiders kind of just threw me to the wayside, but I feel like I'm in a much better situation here with a much better team. I'm excited to be here.”

The Eagles could use more help in the middle of their line, especially a rotational player with a Crimson Tide pedigree. This will give the Eagles a lot more flexibility to spell guys like Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis throughout the season.

The Eagles kickoff their season in South America as they travel to Sau Paulo, Brazil to take on the Green Bay Packers this Friday.

Kickoff is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET.
