Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever aren't playing on Tuesday night, September 3. However, they are on track to achieve a feat that they have not accomplished in nearly a decade.

That is, the Fever can clinch a WNBA playoff spot tonight for the first time since 2016. As pointed out by beat reporter Chloe Peterson of the Indy Star , however, there are a couple of major developments that need to go in their favor in order for Clark and Co. to officially clinch that elusive playoff berth.

Indiana is currently sixth in the WNBA with a 17-16 record. The five teams above them are the New York Liberty, the Connecticut Sun, the Minnesota Lynx, the Las Vegas Aces and the Seattle Storm, and all five sides have already clinched their spot in the postseason. On Tuesday, the Fever are hoping to be the sixth team to achieve this same feat.

There are four games scheduled for Tuesday night, and the Fever will be paying very close attention to two of them. For Indiana to qualify for the postseason tonight, Angel Reese and the eighth-seeded Chicago Sky will need to lose to the Aces. At the same time, the ninth-placed Atlanta Dream have to lose to the Phoenix Mercury, who themselves are currently seventh in the league. Both games tip off at 10 p.m. Eastern time.

While the result of Tuesday's games will be out of their control, it's the Fever and their strong play of late that have placed them in this position. Indiana has won four in a row behind Clark's scorching hot streak (she just bagged the Eastern Conference Player of the Week award). Moreover, the Fever have gone 6-1 since returning from the month-long Olympic break.

Even if Indiana is unable to clinch a playoff spot on Tuesday, they should be able to do so sooner rather than later. They have seven games remaining in the regular season, and depending on how things go, Indiana could potentially book their place in the playoffs with a win against the 7-25 Los Angeles Sparks on Wednesday, September 4.
