The No. 2 Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team was stunned on the road against the SMU Mustangs Tuesday night, getting swept in three straight sets at Moody Coliseum.

It was undoubtedly SMU's best win ever in the program's history in front of a record home crowd of 6,773.

Big Red was dominated throughout, committing 11 service errors and only notching one ace all night. They also were outhit by the Mustangs (.242 to .171), kills (39-36), blocks (10-9), and digs (43-36).

SMU also recorded seven aces on the night while committing 10 service errors.

The Huskers started strong in the first set with seven kills in their first 13 attacks. Eventually, Nebraska built up an 18-13 lead and then a 20-15 lead after Andi Jackson recorded her first ever ace.

With the score 21-16 in favor of Nebraska, SMU then went on a 6-0 run to go up 22-21. The Huskers tied it up at 22 but a service error put the Mustangs back on top. Ultimately, SMU's back-to-back kills with the score tied at 23 secured the first set.

SMU didn't waste any time in the second set, jumping out to a 7-4 lead. Lindsey Krause's kill helped the Huskers crawl back to tie it up at 7 but SMU again went on a run, this time 4-0 to put the Mustangs up 13-8.

Nebraska made it interesting, getting within one at 19-18 but SMU capitalized off late service errors by the Huskers and won the second set 25-21.

In the third set, both teams were neck and neck until kills by Rebekah Allick and Harper Murray, and a block by Murray and Jackson helped Nebraska gain an 11-8 lead. SMU fought back to tie it at 11 and after a brief 14-13 lead for the Huskers, SMU went on a winning 12-3 run, ultimately winning the set in three.

Merritt Beason lead the Huskers with nine kills and Jackson added eight kills, hitting .667 with six blocks. Murray had six kills on the night and Allick and Krause added five each.

Bergen Reilly led the way with 31 assists and 11 digs.

Nebraska will next head back home for the Husker Invitational this week. Their next match is against The Citadel on Thursday at 6 p.m. and then another match scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. against Montana State.
