Caitlin Clark made history yet again on Wednesday, September 4, after becoming the first rookie in WNBA history to win the Player of the Month award. The 22-year-old was deemed the best player in the Eastern Conference for August behind eye-popping averages of 24.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 8.5 assists per game, while also knocking down 3.7 triples per game on a 37.2-percent clip.

At the same time, however, it wasn't just Clark who balled out for the Fever in August. Two-time All-Star Kelsey Mitchell has also been on a tear of late as she, too, has been an integral part of Indiana's 5-1 record last month.

In six games played, Mitchell produced averages of 25.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 3.8 treys per contest. The 5-foot-8 guard was so good that more than a few fans out there believe that she deserves the Player of the Month award over Clark.

As it turns out, even Caitlin herself agrees with this notion.

"I felt like Kels probably should have got a little love," Clark said. "I honestly thought she probably should have been Player of the Month. Just what she was doing, and at the clip that she was doing it -- I think she was 50/40/90 (percent) this month, which is really, really hard to do."

"So I feel very fortunate to play with her. And, honestly -- I'm not even trying to be corny -- I really think she deserved it."

This is just Clark being her most humble self while also expressing her affinity to her Fever teammate. She knows how well she's played over the past month but at the same time, Clark hasn't failed to recognize the great things Mitchell has been doing for this squad.

"I feel lucky to have a backcourt mate that has been through this for seven years," Clark continued. "It's really helped me and kind of let me flourish."

It's not as if Clark can officially share the award with Mitchell as a co-Player of the Month, but Caitlin has made her thoughts on her teammate extremely clear here.
