Rumor: Steelers Exploring Receiver Trade?
By Austin Givan,
The Pittsburgh Steelers could reportedly turn to the market for additional wide receiver talent as they gear up for the season. With their current depth chart raising concerns behind George Pickens, NFL analyst Kristopher Knox has identified the Steelers as potential trade partners for two wide receivers: Treylon Burks of the Tennessee Titans and Darius Slayton of the New York Giants.
According to Knox's analysis for Bleacher Report, the Steelers are looking to solidify their receiver room, which currently features unproven players like Van Jefferson, Calvin Austin, and Roman Wilson. While Jefferson’s recent performances have been inconsistent, and Austin and Wilson are still establishing themselves, the potential addition of a seasoned receiver could provide much-needed stability and production . The injury status of Wilson, who is questionable for Week 1 with an ankle injury, adds to the urgency for Pittsburgh to consider trade options.
Darius Slayton could be the preferred choice for the Steelers, given his proven track record with the Giants. Entering his sixth season, Slayton has been a consistent contributor, recording over 700 yards in four of the past five seasons despite a challenging quarterback situation in New York. His reliability and experience make him an attractive target for a team like Pittsburgh, aiming to compete in the highly competitive AFC North.
Treylon Burks, meanwhile, presents a more uncertain option. The former first-round pick has struggled with injuries and inconsistent play during his tenure with the Titans, falling down the depth chart behind newly acquired veterans Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd. Although his potential is undeniable, his inability to stay healthy raises concerns about whether he can make a significant impact in Pittsburgh . However, his youth and physical attributes could still make him a valuable addition if he can stay on the field.
For the Steelers, either trade would come with minimal cost, allowing them to explore these options without significant financial or draft capital risk. As Pittsburgh looks to strengthen its roster and support quarterback Russell Wilson , adding a wide receiver like Slayton or Burks could be the key to enhancing their passing game and bolstering their playoff hopes.
