The college sports landscape has gone through a ton of realignment over the past few years, allowing for the Big Ten, Big 12, ACC, AAC, SEC and Pac-12 to look much different than before.

At the end of August, there were reports about the Big 12 Conference trying to add basketball powerhouse UConn in another expansion move.

However, those talks have now been hit with a pause in negotiations, per Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark in a statement released on Thursday.

"As Commissioner, it is my responsibility to explore a variety of value-creating opportunities on behalf of the Big 12," Yormark said in the statement. "Following detailed discussions w/my conference colleagues alongside UConn leadership, we have jointly decided to pause our conversations at this time. We will instead focus our attention and resources to ushering in this new era of college athletics.”

It was initially reported that there would be an "in-depth discussion" about adding UConn to the Big 12.

This also wasn't the first attempt for the Big 12 to try and add UConn to the fold, either.

The Big 12 would've added UConn In all sports, and bringing the defending national champion UConn Huskies men's basketball team and the powerhouse women's basketball team would've been a massive jolt for the conference.

As of now, those talks are officially on hold once again, although the words "pausing" means it could pick back up at some point down the road.
