As the New York Giants head into the season, the team faces uncertainty over the future of starting quarterback Daniel Jones .

While hopes remain that Jones will establish himself as the franchise's long-term answer under center, there are already whispers about potential alternatives. Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox suggested that if Daniel Jones falters, the Giants might consider making a move for Jacksonville Jaguars backup quarterback Mac Jones.

Mac Jones, who made the Pro Bowl in his rookie season with the New England Patriots in 2021, has seen his stock fall significantly since then. After a rough 2023 season and a trade to the Jaguars, Jones now finds himself as a backup.

However, his preseason performance in Jacksonville reportedly impressed many around the league, prompting discussions about his future. Knox notes that acquiring Jones could be a cost-effective move for the Giants, as he is entering the final year of his rookie contract.

Knox suggests that the Jaguars could demand a mid-round pick in exchange for Jones, who still possesses a strong arm and demonstrated vertical passing ability during his time in New England.

His performance against the Cleveland Browns in 2021, where he completed over 16 percent of his passes above expectation, remains a testament to his potential to push the ball downfield — a quality that could align with the Giants' current offensive strategy.

The Giants, under head coach Brian Daboll, have invested heavily in a more dynamic passing attack, bringing in rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers to go alongside second-year talent Jalin Hyatt . Both receivers thrive in a vertical offense, and Mac Jones’ ability to stretch the field could complement their skill sets well. Additionally, Daboll's familiarity with Mac Jones' background, having coached at Alabama when Jones arrived, might provide added comfort in such a move.

Still, any trade consideration remains speculative, and much depends on Daniel Jones' performance in the early weeks of the season. After an offseason marked by uncertainty, including talks with the New England Patriots about trading up for Drake Maye, the Giants have shown they are not entirely convinced that Daniel Jones is their future. General manager Joe Schoen and the front office seem poised to evaluate all options as the season progresses.

For now, the Giants are focused on their season opener against the Minnesota Vikings , where Daniel Jones will be expected to lead a revamped offense. Should he struggle, the team's brass might explore alternatives like Mac Jones to salvage their season and address their long-term quarterback needs.
