Simone Biles Teases Possible Decision About Competing at 2028 Olympics

It’s the question everyone has been asking since USA gymnast Simone Biles won silver in the floor exercise at the 2024 Paris Olympics: will she compete in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles?

The 27-year-old has been dodging that question for weeks, but she may have given the closest thing to an actual answer to that question during her appearance on “The Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday.

“Everybody wants to know this question, I’m like, ‘Cant’ I live?’” Biles joked. “I’m getting older; 27 is a little bit older for a gymnast. … Like in real life, I’m aging like fine wine, but for a gymnast [that’s old]. Outside of [gymnastics] I’m young. … In the gym, I am old. Maybe [I’ll compete] if we can do like tag beam, vault, floor, bars — like tag somebody else in.”

While Biles famously stated “never say never” when she was asked about competing in 2028 while still in Paris, it’s starting to sound more and more like she’s content on calling it a career.

With nothing left to prove — she has 11 Olympic medals, including seven gold, and she’s the most-decorated gymnast in the sport’s history — Biles has alluded several times to her age as a potential reason for the 2024 Games being her last.

Though the 2028 Games will be in her home country in Los Angeles, Biles will be 29 by that time, and Olympic gymnasts don’t typically compete close to their 30s.

Additionally, her husband, Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens, who’s 29, wants to start a family, and having children within the next four years would almost certainly rule out any chance of her competing at another Olympic Games.
