Ravens TE Isaiah Likely Breaks Silence on Game-Ending Play vs. Chiefs

Isaiah Likely know the question was coming, and judging by his answer, one could tell he had some reservations.

After catching the would-be game-tying touchdown in the final seconds of Thursday’s season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs, video replay showed Likely’s toe on his lead foot appeared to be out of bounds as he came down, nullifying what would have been his second touchdown of the game.

When the 24-year-old tight end was asked about the play during Baltimore’s post-game press conference, his answer sounded straight out of the coach’s handbook.

“At this point, you’ve got to look on, obviously watch the film to see where we can do better to not put ourselves in a situation where, to leave it in the refs hands to be able to call that call and call the game,” Likely said , via Jamison Hensley of the Baltimore Sun. “So, all I’ll say is watch the film and see what we can improve on and move onto next week.”

Based on the video replay, Likely’s foot was out of bounds by maybe a half-inch. When cameras panned to him on the sideline, his face said it all. He knew how close he was to tying the game up and sending it to overtime.

But rather than avoid talking about his blunder, Likely owned his mistake.

“That’s on me, I’ve got to get both feet in,” Likely added. “I harp on myself to catch everything, make sure everybody puts us in the best possibility [to win], so I take responsibility. Next time I’ll get my feet in.”
