Following Thursday’s season-opening loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, many around the Baltimore Ravens were looking for someone to point the finger at.

But former Washington Commanders quarterback Robert Griffin III believes the team should be pointing at itself.

Griffin wrote out a lengthy explanation on X for why the Ravens lost to the Chiefs, in which he pointed out quarterback Lamar Jackson missed some late throws that could’ve won the game, but he ultimately decided that the Ravens need to give Jackson more help instead of relying on him to do everything himself.

“The bigger picture is, [Jackson] is having to make a play down in and down out so much that his Superman Cape is getting worn down by the end of the game,” Griffin wrote . “…The Ravens need Lamar at his best at the end of the game, so getting the rest of the team engrained in the game early is more important than having Lamar be EVERYTHING on offense from start to finish.

“…The Ravens can help him by not asking him to be Superman the entire game. The Ravens can only do this if their offensive line play improves dramatically to protect Lamar in pocket and help the running game outside of him scrambling.”

Jackson’s season-opening stat line looked quite impressive.

He completed 26 of 41 passes for 273 yards and a touchdown, and he rushed for another 122 yards on 14 carries. But to Griffin’s point, he got little help elsewhere.

Running back Derrick Henry had just 46 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries, and aside from tight end Isaiah Likely, who finished with nine receptions, 111 yards and a score, the rest of Baltimore’s pass-catchers did very little.

Jackson was pressured on nearly 30% of his drop backs and he was forced to scramble nine times because the offensive line couldn’t contain the Chiefs’ pass-rush. He also didn’t get much help from his backs in the pass game either as the Ravens used play action just 24.5% of the time, per Pro Football Focus.
