NFL Insider Provides Massive Injury Update on 49ers Star RB Christian McCaffrey

Recent reports have disclosed that Christian McCaffrey, the star running back for the San Francisco 49ers, is contending with several injuries.

Consequently, his participation in Thursday's practice was restricted. NFL insider Ian Rapoport has provided a significant update on McCaffrey's condition during an appearance on NFL Network.

“For the San Francisco 49ers Christian McCaffrey did practice yesterday (Thursday),” Rapoport said. “Has been back at practice this week. Was limited but should be fine in the game. All this is good and expected. Was not exactly expected was the team added… now that they have to be specific on the injury report, they added Achilles to the designation along with calf letting you believe he was dealing with either a multitude of injuries or maybe a little different injury than we all expected. Wasn't just the calf strain we thought.”

McCaffrey's calf injury has been publicly known for a while. However, the Achilles injury might have caught some in the NFL sphere off guard. With Week 1 approaching, is there cause for concern?

“McCaffrey should be fine,” Rapoport continued, “but at least something to watch going forward.”

The NFL season kicked off Thursday night with the Kansas City Chiefs triumphing over the Baltimore Ravens 27-20. NFL games are also scheduled for Friday and Sunday.

The 49ers have a slight edge as their opening game of the 2024 season is set for Monday night, giving McCaffrey additional time to rest and recover.

If the 49ers had a game on Thursday, it would be speculative whether McCaffrey would have played. The added rest is undoubtedly advantageous for the running back.

Although his current status remains uncertain at the time of this report, Rapoport appears quite optimistic about McCaffrey's likelihood of playing. Naturally, his condition will be closely watched throughout the weekend up to Monday night against the New York Jets.
