Damonic Williams is a force on the Sooners defensive line

Damonic Williams has been a huge addition for the Sooners since transferring from TCU this Spring. Williams spoke with the media earlier this week and shared his thoughts on adjusting to life in Norman and preparing for Houston on Saturday night.

It’s only been a couple of months but how different are you as a player? What’s improved the most since coming here.

Damonic: I’ll say my speed and my strength in knowing a lot more about football. Because at TCU, I would say I had a very young mindset and I wasn’t very much concerned about different types of sets and everything like that. But now I know that certain types of sets, what formation is giving me, what runs and passes and things like that.

What are some early thoughts on Houston?

Damonic: We’re going to respect them just like every other opponent. We know that they have that dog in then and that they’re going to be a very important opponent to beat.

Talking about Coach Todd Bates and everything you’ve learned from him so far…Is there anything he’s given you in particular to help motivate you or get you in the right mindset?

Damonic: Just trusting myself and trust in him that he is not going to set me up for failure at all. I mean, that’s why I came here. I trust that man and I trust the defense and the coaches.
