Packers Trade Pitch Lands Jameis Winston as Jordan Love's Injury Replacement

The Green Bay Packers could be in need of help at quarterback after Jordan Love was hurt in the team's season opener, and one analyst suggests they could find one through a blockbuster trade.

Love was hurt in the closing seconds of the team's 34-29 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Friday's game in Brazil. After completing a long pass that brought the Packers near midfield, Love was pressured and brought down to the turf, causing his leg to twist awkwardly.

The team's medical staff helped Love off the field and backup Malik Willis replaced him for the final two plays. Though NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero reported on Saturday that Love appears to have avoided a season-ending ACL tear, his outlook remains uncertain.

If Love should be forced to miss games, CBS Sports reporter Jordan Dajani suggested the Packers could trade for Cleveland Browns backup Jameis Winston to fill in as the starter.

"The Packers would need to trade for Winston, who is currently slated as the Cleveland Browns' backup behind Deshaun Watson, but the former No. 1 overall pick would be an excellent replacement for Love," Dajani wrote. "Not only is the 30-year-old veteran a natural leader whom the young Packers could rally around, but he's one of the better backup quarterbacks in the NFL who can still sling it."

Veteran free agent Ryan Tannehill has also been floated as an option to fill in for Love if he's forced to miss an extended time.
