The Tulane Green Wave were on the verge of a ranked upset of the Kansas State Wildcats in Week 2. Tulane's last ranked win was against the USC Trojans in 2022 in the Cotton Bowl. The Green Wave beat the No. 10 Trojans 46-45.

Tulane was driving down the field to try to tie the game. Late in the fourth quarter, the Green Wave was down 34-27 to the No. 17 Wildcats. Things got interesting once Tulane got inside the Red Zone.

Quarterback Darian Mensah appeared to throw a touchdown pass, but the referees called Tulane for an offensive pass interference penalty that negated the play. Two plays later, Kansas State intercepted Mensah to end the game.

Tulane wide receiver Yulkeith Brown jumped for a pass at the goal line and made contact with a Kansas State defensive back while entering the endzone. The officials believed it was enough to call the penalty.

Mensah had a solid game up until his interception. He finished the game with 342 passing yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.

Tulane finished second in the American Athletic Conference last season. The Green Wave lost to the SMU Mustangs in the conference title game 26-14. SMU, along with the Stanford Cardinal and California Golden Bears, has since joined the ACC.

Tulane has a chance for another upset in Week 3. The Green Wave face the Oklahoma Sooners at 3:30 p.m. ET on Sept. 14.
