Browns' Watson Announces Death of Father

The Cleveland Browns community was struck with sad news amidst the optimism that comes with Week 1.

On Friday, quarterback Deshaun Watson announced the passing of his father, Don Richardson, on his Instagram.

“Rest In Peace Pops,” Watson posted .

The news comes just hours before Watson and the Browns play host to the Dallas Cowboys , which will commence on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.

Watson, notably, doesn’t share his father’s surname.

In 2017, he gave insight on the dynamics of his family to the Houston Chronicle .

“My mom was basically my mother and father, so I didn’t really pay too much attention to it,” he said. “My friends had fathers. But for me it was just kind of, ‘Hey, my mother is the one that I’m going to rely on and I’ll always focus on.’”

No information has been released regarding the details of Richardson’s death. However, it is not expected to impact the QB’s availability for Sunday’s contest against the Cowboys .
