Top SEC Head Coach Firmly on Hot Seat After Disappointing Week 2 Performance

The college football world was shaken up on Saturday. A couple of highly ranked teams were stunned, including a loss for No. 5 Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Penn State Nittany Lions was another team that barely escaped with a victory over Bowling Green Falcons.
While both of those squads received tremendous attention, a loss for the SEC had fans buzzing all over social media.
The Auburn Tigers suffered a 21-14 loss to the California Golden Bears at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Following the loss, fans went in on Tigers head coach Hugh Freeze. While the well-known coach is just entering his second season with the program, some fans believe it's time for Freeze to pack his bags.
"Kind of amazing how obviously bad a of a hire Hugh Freeze is." said one fan.
"Has Hugh Freeze ever come across a slant, mesh concept, or crossing route?" asked one fan.
"It’s me the guy who thought Hugh Freeze was going to get some stuff done at Auburn. Yikes!" commented another.
"Ok, I’m over Hugh Freeze. Too many times in his short tenure that we look completely unprepared," said one fan. "Pathetic!"
"Who is Hugh freeze going to blame the offense on this year?" said another fan.
"Not a great start to the Hugh Freeze era in Auburn." mentioned one fan.
Freeze started his tenure with the Tigers in 2023. In his first season with the program, Freeze scored a 6-7 record for the SEC powerhouse, with a Music City bowl game loss to Maryland.
He came into the season with the No. 10 recruiting class in the nation. Freeze has fared well on the recruiting trail, but Auburn hasn't been able to connect the dots on the field.
Auburn started the 2024-25 college football with a monster victory over Alabama A&M. They picked up a 73-3 win, and many thought the Tigers would be heading in a new direction.
After getting upset by the Golden Bears at home, Auburn will have a chance to bounce back in Week 3 against New Mexico State. They'll host the Lobos on Sept. 14.
